Greetings, All!
The snow is here and actually sticking (kind of) and we have all gained an hour through daylight savings, so that’s nice! It’s shaping up to be a busy week, so be sure to swing by the office if you need a little boost in the form of candy to get you through the day.
In celebration of Veterans & Military Family Month and National Native American Heritage Month, here’s a few facts about native veterans:
* There are about 14,250 members in the active duty force who identify as American Indians. (That’s about 1.1%.)
* Interestingly, the American Indian and Alaska Native population within the United States also accounts for 1.1% of the total population (3.7 million people).
* 2.9% of the US population (5.9 million people) identifies as being both American Indian and Alaska Native and within another race group.
* In 2020, the first national memorial dedicated solely to Native American veterans was unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D. C. It took 20 years to make and the designer/creator of the memorial has stated that he believes it will become a place of strength, power, healing, and spirituality. You can read more about it by going here<https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/native-american-veterans-receive-place-their-own-reflect-and-heal-180976247/>.
There are exciting opportunities for you and fun things happening this week and beyond. Check them out below!
