I hope you all had a great weekend and are settling into this new semester. I’m excited to be back in the classroom this Fall and enjoying the bright and inquisitive students who are populating that course. 😃 It’s going to be a great semester!

  *   Volunteer Opportunities:
     *   MEDLIFE is a non-profit organization providing service learning experiences in Peru, Ecuador, and Tanzania.   *   Scholarship/Fellowship Opportunities:
     *   Applications are now open for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP), which is a fellowship for those planning to pursue a doctorate. New graduate students and senior undergraduate students are eligible for the program. If you are interested, check out this link<https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2022/nsf22614/nsf22614.htm?WT.mc_ev=click&WT.mc_id=&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery> and talk with your academic advisor about this great opportunity! Deadlines for applying are October 17-21, 2022 (deadline dependent on field of research).
     *   Applications are now open for applying to the Completing the Dream Scholarship Program (see attachment). This program is for students in good academic standing who are facing challenges with returning/graduating due to an outstanding financial need and/or an emergency situation. The application window is open until all scholarship funds are awarded or until May 31st, 2023.

  *   Other Professional Development Opportunities:
     *   Get ready for the South Dakota Mines Career Fair, happening on September 13th!The latest list had 18 employers looking for biomedical engineering students to take on as interns, so polish up that resume, dust off your power suit, and brush up on your interviewing skills in preparation for the big day! 😊
     *   St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is hosting a competitive National Symposium for Undergraduate Research (October 21-22, 2022). The symposium will not only allow students to showcase their research and practice their skills in presenting at scientific gatherings, but also give them opportunities to learn more about the research happening at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Select students may also be able to have their symposium-related expenses (travel, lodging, meals, etc.) covered by the Graduate School. The application deadline is September 18th, 2022.
