Go To Mines Open House
June 16, July 22

High school students considering college are invited to bring the family to the Go To Mines open house. Get a comprehensive campus tour of academic departments and residence halls, meet faculty members, and ask questions of the admissions staff and current students.

Badlands Astronomy Festival
June 23-25

Badlands National Park has partnered with the NASA South Dakota Space Grant Consortium at SD Mines to co-sponsor the 2017 Badlands Astronomy Festival<https://www.nps.gov/badl/planyourvisit/night-sky-program.htm>. The festival brings together space science professionals, amateur astronomers, educators, and visitors for a three-day celebration.  Tom Durkin of the NASA SD Space Grant Consortium is the guest speaker at 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

Venkata Gadhamshetty Ted-X Talk
June 28

Dr. Gadhamshetty is an Associate Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at SD Mines. He is the recipient of a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award. He is currently an investigator in research projects worth $3.5 million. His work is supported by Electric Power Research Institute, NSF, and NASA. His research on generating electricity from defective tomatoes was featured in 350 media outlets including BBC World Service, CNN, History Now, and Popular Science.

Hardrocker Summer Athletic Camps and Activities
May - July

Mines offers several summer athletic camps, tournaments, and workshops for a wide range of youth. Several basketball tournaments and camps take place for varying ages and skill levels from May through late July.

SD Mines SPS at Denver Comic Con
June 30-July 2

SD Mines Society of Physics Students (SPS) will present a panel discussion on Dark Matter & Dark Energy and their use in popular culture and fiction at the Denver Comic Con.  The presentation will explore the boundaries between science fiction and science fact.  The panel covers the basics of what we know, or rather, don't know, about these mysterious components of our universe.

STEM Summer Camps
June & July

Registration is open for the 2017 Mines summer camps. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to live on campus for a week to immerse in hands-on learning on topics such as civil engineering, explosives, paleontology, and 3D printing.
