I hope you all had a lovely fall weekend! (I hear the fall colors are currently spectacular in Spearfish Canyon, so that might be a fun little trip for you to take if you need a break!) 😊 We are officially in the month of October, so I am looking for some volunteers to help out with a number of outreach events in the coming weeks:
* Girl Scouts’ Believe In Girls (BIG) Event on Saturday, October 14th at Western Dakota Tech from 1PM-4PM. Our department will be doing a booth with activities and we could use your help! Please sign up here<http://volunteersignup.org/B8PEF>.
* Go To Mines recruitment events will be taking place from 8:00AM-12:00PM on October 21st and November 4th. Please sign up for one or more event by going here<https://volunteersignup.org/JK9D9>.
* Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS) is hosting an 8th Grade College & Career Fair on November 8th and we could really use some students to help with a booth that day! The event will go from 7:30AM-3:00PM and you can volunteer for one of three shifts or speak with Dr. J if you want to work an alternative shift timeslot. * The Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board is looking for volunteers to help with screening and paperwork for people attending their Historical Trauma & Unresolved Grief group that addresses and explores the cumulative effects of current and historical trauma, grief, and loss within the collective American Indian experience. * Scholarship/Fellowship Opportunities:
* Applications for the Fulbright are now open! These are graduate-level studies for international work. The deadline is October 10th and you can learn more and apply by going here<https://us.fulbrightonline.org/>.
* Applications for the Brass LIFE Award are now open! These are $5,000/semester awards for up to 3 semesters (one of which must be spent abroad). You must have junior standing by January 2024 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for this award. * Applications for the 2024 Science Ambassador Scholarship (funded by Cards Against Humanity) are now open! (Deadline is December, 13th.) The application is a 3-minute educational video of yourself explaining a STEM topic you are passionate about. This is open to undergraduates and high school seniors.
