Greetings, All!
I hope you had a delightful weekend! I spent mine doing a little yard work, cooking, playing Pokémon, shopping, getting into a new-to-me anime, and cuddling with my husband and the four dogs currently in our house (2 are mine and the other 2 are visiting while their parents are in Hawaii). 😊 The shopping included some new fruit snacks for today’s Kaplan Course Scholarship drawing! (See daily info below for details!)
Big congratulations to Dr. Wang and his family who welcomed a new baby girl to the world last week! 😃
Summer is a great time to get in some volunteer hours and I could use help with several outreach activities over the next few months! I need helpers for camps happening here on campus on June 19th and June 27th (sign up here!<http://volunteersignup.org/YEPMC>) and I could use some help for Go To Mines on June 9th and July 22nd (sign up here!<http://volunteersignup.org/JK9D9>). Please reach out to me directly if you have any questions!
For Jewish American Heritage Month<https://www.jewishheritagemonth.gov/#:~:text=May%20is%20Jewish%20American%20Heritage,Americans%20who%20helped%20form%20the>, check out this article on Judith Love Cohen<https://allthatsinteresting.com/judith-love-cohen>, electrical and aerospace engineer, ballerina, mother of 4 (including the actor Jack Black!), and co-owner of Cascade Pass (publishing company). She worked on the Hubble space telescope and the Minuteman missile as well as for the Apollo Space Program. After she retired, she devoted her life to promoting women in STEM through a series of children’s stories.
And for Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month<https://www.asianpacificheritage.gov/>, here’s an article about Dr. Tuan Vo-Dinh<https://bme.duke.edu/faculty/tuan-vo-dinh>, Vietnamese American researcher in photonics, biomedical engineering, and chemistry. Dr. Vo-Dinh works at Duke University and is known for developing gene probes that help screen for cancer. He holds over 20 patents and uses techniques in nano-biophotonics, nanosensors, laser spectroscopy, molecular imaging, chemical sensors, biosensors, and biochips to further his research.
There are exciting opportunities for you and fun things happening this week and beyond. Check them out below!
