Greetings, All!
Welcome to the first full week of June! Summer is in full swing and I hope you are all making time to enjoy it through activities that are relaxing and recharging! 😊 This month brings lots of celebrations as it is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and Immigrant Heritage Month. Check out this article on 6 LGBTQ+ Engineers Who Changed the World<https://www.accu.co.uk/p/330-6-lgbtq-engineers-who-changed-the-world> and this article on Immigrant Engineers in the US Workforce<https://www.engineering.com/story/10-years-of-growth-immigrant-engineers-in-the-us-workforce>.
It turns out that June is also a month for celebrating a wide range of foods/drinks, including dairy, candy, iced tea, soul food, frozen yogurt, lemon, fresh fruit and vegetables, papaya, dairy alternatives, corn and cucumber (yes, together, apparently?!), and mango, all of which get their own “National ____ Month” designations. I hope you get a chance to celebrate properly by having some or all of these things over the next few weeks! (And here’s a recipe for corn and cucumber salad<https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/corn-n-cucumbers-salad/>, which actually doesn’t sound half bad.)
Also, congratulations to Vanessa Kee, our Research Engineer & Instrumentation Specialist for the department, who was awarded the NFE Employee of the Month! 😊 Be sure to congratulate her the next time you see her.
Also, also, big congratulations to Dr. Shan Zhou, who received an award from the NSF to support his project titled "ERI: Revealing the Reconfiguration Dynamics of Lipid Bilayer and Its Hydration Structures with Nanoscale Resolution during Electroporation"! 😃 He’s currently out of the country, but definitely congratulate him when you see him after he returns!
There are exciting opportunities for you and fun things happening this week and beyond. Check them out below!
