Greetings! I know this is a very busy time of year for you with the hustle and bustle of a new semester!

I wanted to introduce you to a new scholarship opportunity being provided by the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) South Dakota Chapter. We are offering two $1,000 scholarships; one is an undergraduate scholarship (associate or baccalaureate student) and the other is a graduate scholarship (masters or doctoral student).

The intent is that these students either currently work in healthcare or have a desire to work in healthcare when finishing their education. The preferred degrees would be in something related to health information technology, health information management, health informatics, nursing informatics, or industrial engineering, operations research, computer science, information systems, data analytics, mathematics, or other quantitative programs focused on healthcare.

Attached is a document explaining more about the scholarship program and the actual scholarship application form. I am not sure if your educational institution has programs that fall into this area, but if they do, could you please forward this on to the appropriate persons who can get the word out to your students.

Please have students e-mail their scholarship applications to me (patti.brooks at dsu.edu<mailto:patti.brooks at dsu.edu>) by no later than the end of the day on Friday, September 9th. We realize we are a little behind in getting this information to you, but at the same time, this will help assure we are choosing students who are actively enrolled in a program. You probably noticed that I work at Dakota State University. I am an assistant professor and an active member of SDHIMSS. I wanted to assure you I am not on the scholarship selection committee; I am just coordinating the activities because I have a real interest in establishing an ongoing scholarship program.
