Greetings, All!


Excitement is in the air and people are populating the campus again as we start the Fall 2022 semester! For some of you, this is your first start of a new academic year. Welcome! For others, it’s the start of another academic year (or maybe even the start of your last academic year). Welcome back!



I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend and that you are all jazzed for the many things you will be learning in the coming months. In addition to all that you do in the classroom, you will also be engaging in social events, possibly in academic and/or athletic competitions, and hopefully in many professional development activities. Doing so requires you to hone your skills in time management and to take care of yourself in the process.      *   MEDLIFE is a non-profit organization providing service learning experiences in Peru, Ecuador, and Tanzania.   *   Scholarship/Fellowship Opportunities:
     *   Applications are open for the Magellan TV Women in STEM Scholarship. Each scholarship is $1,000. Learn more and apply by going here<https://www.magellantv.com/scholarships>. The deadline to apply is September 1st, 2022.
     *   Applications are now open for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP), which is a fellowship for those planning to pursue a doctorate. New graduate students and senior undergraduate students are eligible for the program.      *   Applications are now open for applying to the Completing the Dream Scholarship Program (see attachment). This program is for students in good academic standing who are facing challenges with returning/graduating due to an outstanding financial need and/or an emergency situation. The application window is open until all scholarship funds are awarded or until May 31st, 2023.

     *   St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is hosting a competitive National Symposium for Undergraduate Research (October 21-22, 2022). The symposium will not only allow students to showcase their research and practice their skills in presenting at scientific gatherings, but also give them opportunities to learn more about the research happening at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Select students may also be able to have their symposium-related expenses (travel, lodging, meals, etc.) covered by the Graduate School. The application deadline is September 18th, 2022.
