     President’s Ride Raises Money for Scholarships
SD Mines President Jim Rankin will host the first annual President’s Ride during the Sturgis Rally on Saturday, August 3, 2019. There is a 5 p.m. post-ride party in O’Harra Stadium that includes a hog roast, a beer garden featuring Dakota Point Brewing, and music. Motorcycles and cars are welcome to join the ride. Passes for just the post-ride party are also available. All proceeds from the President’s Ride will go toward funding scholarships for SD Mines students.

Apollo 11: 50th Anniversary Talk

Tom Durkin, the Deputy Director of SD Space Grant Consortium, speaks on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.  The presentation is from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13 at the South Dakota Air & Space Museum, located just outside the main gate of Ellsworth Air Force Base.

When it comes to engineering, nature is often our best teacher. Take the Macrotermitinea, or fungus-growing termites, for example. Their use of mechanics, physics, biology, chemistry, and microbiology to solve problems shows a masterful integration of engineering principles. Join Dr. Bret Lingwall as he broadens our understanding of how humankind can mimic natural engineering to solve human-based problems. The event starts at 6 p.m. at Hay Camp Brewing Company.
