The Women in Science and Engineering Forum weekend<http://campaign.sdsmt.edu/email/wise/weekend/WiseWeekend.htm> is for prospective Mines students. Take a tour of campus, meet SD Mines STEMinists, and listen to a panel discussion Thursday evening with industry leaders from Kimberly Clark, Freeport McMoRan, the medical field, and more. Plus spend a day in the shoes of a Mines student, shadowing a WiSE mentor Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Scope out classes, see real projects, and get a feel for campus life.

Kick start your kids' interest in engineering. The Department of Industrial Engineering at SD Mines is hosting free STEM Day activities from 9 a.m. to noon. The day is tailored for middle school students and includes a campus tour, robotics demonstration, 3D printer lesson, a laser engraver demonstration, plus activities and games. Space is limited to thirty students. Each participant will receive a custom laser engraved gift.

SD Mines Admissions is hosting prospective high school students and their families at the second annual STEM Careers Night. This will be a career fair-style event with booths set up for each department, clubs, and groups of students. The event will be held in the Surbeck Ballroom from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Make plans now for the 40th Annual Engineers Week celebration at South Dakota Mines. The week of activities will include a number of events geared just for high school, middle, and elementary students. Public events include Mines Myth Busters, Engineering & Science Day Department Tours, Chemistry Show & NASA Presentation, and the MathCounts contest.

Apex Gallery Exhibition: Communicate, Innovate, Fabricate
February 13-March 17

"Communicate, Innovate, Fabricate" is an exhibition of original creative expressions, including maps, drawings, plans, fabrications, models, and experiments by students from across campus. This is not limited to traditional art forms and includes a wide variety of creative work of Mines students. A reception will be from 5-7 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m., on February 24, during Engineers Week. The exhibit and reception in the Apex Gallery, located in the Classroom Building, are open to the public.

The Pre-Health Pathways<http://www.sdsmt.edu/pre-health/> Office and health-focused student organizations at SD Mines are hosting a Health Careers Expo from 2-5 p.m. in the Surbeck Center ballroom. The intended audience includes SD Mines students and high school students who are interested in health careers. The program will include panels of speakers sharing their stories as health professionals and an exhibit hall to allow for networking with professional schools from the region.

The 62nd annual High Plains Regional Science and Engineering Fair for middle and high school students throughout the state of South Dakota and neighboring states will be from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at South Dakota Mines. Registration deadline is February 24.

2nd Annual KTEQSTROPHE

KTEQ, the college radio station at SD Mines, will bring live local music for the second annual "KTEQstophe" featuring bands such as Deere John Doe, Uncommon Knowledge, Boarding School, and more. The event is from 6-11 p.m. in downtown Rapid City at the Black Hills Vinyl record store. It is open to the public and free of charge. All donations will support KTEQ, alternative radio for the Black Hills.

Cultural Expo
March 30 & April 1

Teachers and students are invited to the 2017 Cultural Expo from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 30 in the Surbeck Center ballroom. The annual event celebrates the cultural diversity of more than forty countries and cultures represented by Mines students, as well as other community groups. The Expo is open to the public from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. April 1, with cultural foods and entertainment from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

NASA Grant for Teachers, Students
Registration Open Now

A new NASA grant awarded to the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will promote STEM education by using astronomy to engage K-12 teachers and students in math. The project includes several two-day computational astronomy workshops for teachers; bi-weekly computational astronomy sessions for middle and high school students; and a night sky exploration for students. Three two-day workshops will be offered in April 2017, October 2017, and March 2018. Tuition is paid in full by the grant funds. Each workshop can accommodate a maximum of fifteen teachers. Registration is open to students and teachers from Rapid City and neighboring school districts. Math professors will lead the program, the result of a request among teachers for professional development opportunities through the university.

Summer Camps 2017
June & July

Registration is open for the SD Mines Summer Camps 2017. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to live on campus for a week to immerse in hands-on STEM activities on topics such as civil engineering, explosives, paleontology, and 3D printing. New this year: a Girls Cyber Camp. Explore our summer camps webpage to learn more about all eleven camps and scholarship opportunities. Field trips to Mount Rushmore and other Black Hills attractions are built into the week.
