Good morning,
My name is Andrea Fallon-Korb, and I am reaching out to share information about a research study being conducted as part of my doctoral research at the University of Western States. The purpose of the study is to investigate how various personal factors may impact college athletes' well-being and sense of belonging. Participation in the study will take approximately 10-20 minutes of participants’ time.
Who can participate?
· NCAA Division I, II, and III collegiate athletes competing during the 2022-23 academic year who are 18 years or older.
What will your athletes be asked to do?
· Respond to questions in an online survey regarding sense of belonging to their athletic team, well-being, demographics, and experiences of discrimination.
· The survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete.
Are there any benefits?
· Being a student-athlete can be difficult and there is potential for athletes to learn more about their well-being and belonging.
· The intent of this study is to expand on previous research regarding college athlete mental health by focusing on positive mental health. Results have the potential to improve the understanding of college athletes' well-being and factors that influence it.
· A summary of the results can be made available to your athletic programs so that you can have a researched-informed way to create a more inclusive team and/or sport environment for your athletes.
How can your athletes participate?
· The survey can be accessed here<https://westernstates.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0vm7K5NoUvTHqYu>.
· If you know of any athletes who might be willing to participate in this study by completing this short survey, please spread the word by forwarding this email and the survey link on to them or having them contact me directly at afallon at students.uws.edu.
· Upon completion of the questionnaire, athletes will have the opportunity to opt into a raffle conducted on May 15, 2023, for a $20 Amazon gift card. A total of 75 gift cards will be available. The chance of winning is approximately 1 in 5. The winners will be notified immediately by email and provided with information on how to claim their prize.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more, you can email me at afallon at students.uws.edu.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
